Shake Shack Inspired Burger Sauce

Burgers and fries are one of my favorite meals.  I usually just add ketchup, mustard, or Frank’s RedHot® Original Sauce, but this time we used a recipe from someone who wanted to re-create the burger and sauce from Shake Shack. Definitely not the healthiest dinner in the world, but if you’re going to eat the carbs that come with a burger and fries meal, bun-free and sweet potato fries makes it a little better. It’s also an easy and tasty gluten-free, dairy-free meal.

The Shake Shack inspired burger sauce turned out very well. Using a little healthier mayo will make it even better (one with olive oil instead of seed oils or canola oil… or if you want the healthiest, though most expensive, mayo, check out Mark Sisson’s mayo, with only 5 ingredients, which uses avocado oil, HERE). I also recommend buying the spices at Trader Joe’s because they are cheaper than I’ve seen at a normal grocery store (my local Trader Joe’s has them for $1.99).

Quick & easy tip on how we cook our burgers: bake them in the oven on a baking sheet with sides covered in foil. Clean up is easy (just throw away the foil)! Bake on 350° for 11 minutes on one side, flip then bake for 7 minutes, then flip again and bake for an additional 4 minutes. If you are going to put cheese on your burger, you can put it on after the 2nd flip to give it time to melt. The bake time above gets the burgers to about well done.

The burgers we picked up at Trader Joe’s in a 4 pack (we buy the organic ground beef patties that are 100% grass fed) and the fries are Alexia Sweet Potato Waffle Cut. The ingredients and instructions for the Shake Shake inspired burger sauce are below:

Shopping List:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 4 slices kosher dill pickle (or 2 tablespoons of a dill relish)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Pinch cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  • Combine all ingredients in a mini food processor or blender until smooth (I use this one HERE), scraping down sides of blender with rubber spatula as necessary. Makes about 3/4 cup sauce.
