Super Easy Way to Cook a Lobster Tail

I never realized how easy it was cook a lobster tail. Lobster is another one of those dishes that can be very pricey when ordering at a restaurant, but if you learn to cook it at home it tastes just as good for less than half the price! I buy my lobster tails from Earth Fare, when they are having a sale ($5/tail), raw from the seafood counter. Last week I posted my recipe for filet mignon, which could be served with the lobster for a nice surf and turf! There are several ways to cook lobster, but since it was my first time I went with the simplest… boiling. Here is my super easy way to cook a lobster tail.

Shopping List

  • 3-4 oz. Lobster Tail (completely thawed)
  • Lemon or Butter (optional for flavor)

Instructions

  • Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to a soft boil and drop lobster tails in one at a time.
  • Cook for 3-5 minutes, depending on the size. For reference, I had two 4 oz. tails and cooked for 4 minutes.
  • Using metal tongs, get the hot tails out of the boiling water.
  • Cool the cooked lobster tails right away with fresh cold water to keep them from over cooking.
  • To eat the lobster, use a sharp knife to cut down the middle of the tail. Using your hands, gently pull back the shell to get to the meat.
